This is a compilation of information on these design elements to be informative to the ACC specialists approving applications for these elements. This works in concert with the other materials and Residential Improvement Guidelines.
ANY EXTERIOR CHANGE IS SUBJECT TO ACC APPROVAL, regardless of the below.
The porch railings should be wood with vertical square spindles and appropriate handrail painted the trim color. Original Sanford railings were 2”x2” straight, wooden balusters with appropriate flat or rounded top rail.
Manmade composite material that simulates wood (ie- Trex) is allowed if matches trim color.
Natural wood (unpainted, stained) is not approved.
Railings (from front door or down steps off porch)
Square wood balusters must be vertical and painted trim color. Steel or black wrought iron balusters must be vertical.
Top and bottom rails must be painted to match trim.
Stair railings: Top rail powder-coated steel in black or white, compatible with home. Vertical balusters.
No plastic or round balusters. No glass.
